HP Photosmart 3310 All-in-One does not print, doe print test page but does not show black

I have an HP Photosmart 3310 All-in-One printer that does not print a test page correctly (prints the colors but not the Black) and does not print a WORD document AT ALL from my computer.  The color that should be black in the test page after CLEAN PRINTHEAD appears as a Purple-ish Brown, although after ALIGN PRINTER the page printed shows a short bar of BLACK to the left of the five longer bars of the FIVE COLORS.  The computer in use is an HP Pavilion dv7, with Intel Core i7-3610QM, 2.3 GHz, Ram 8.0 GB (7.9 GB available), 64-bit OS, and Win 7 Home Premium, SP1.

After downloading HP Print and Scan Doctor, we arrived, after one series of steps,  at “If the cartridges have not been refilled and none are empty, try calibrating the color”:  Open HP Solution Center (Start, All Programs, HP, HP Solution Center), then click Settings, Print Settings, Printer Toolbox, on Device Services tab, click Calibrate Color.  This procedure is NOT AVAILABLE, however, because I cannot find HP Solution Center.

What should I try to remedy this problem?  Please be specific -- and please also include with any recommendations for a remedy exactly what if anything should be checked or verified before trying the recommended remedy.
