AirPrint with Scan to Network

I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus AIO. I wanted to be able to print from PC and iPad whilst also being able to scan documents to multiple locations on my Synology NAS. Both I can get to work independently. The AirPrint works with the printer connected wirelessly to my network with ePrint enabled, however, when I setup a network location in Scan to Network the printer is unable to connect to the location. If I turn off ePrint or connect the printer to the wired LAN (which disables the WiFi connection anyway) then I can scan to the NAS perfectly but I've lost my ability to AirPrint from my iPads. The features feel like they're mutually exclusive which is not covered in the documentation. It feels like a huge miss by HP and almost disingenuous of them not to point this out if this is the case. Has anyone found a solution or is this in fact working as designed......which would be very poor design in my mind. Thanks in advance for any help suggestions. BTW, I've done all the basic network checks I think - ip addresses, network subnet mask, workgroup etc....
