I have just moved from Win 7 to Win 8.1. I need to install my Deskjet 3510. The installation seems to succeed but when I try to run the desktop link "HP Deskjet 3510 series" (a shortcut which points to following) the executable fails.
"C:\Program Files\HP\HP Deskjet 3510 series\Bin\HP Deskjet 3510 series.exe" -Start UDCDevicePage
The message: "What do you want to do with HPSPProgress.hta" is shown in Internet Explorer. If I select "Open", I get "An error has occurred in the script on this page. Subsequently the "HP Assistant" window is launched with a blank page.
I am setting up the printer to be connected via USB, and the system recognizes the printer ok.
The bottom line is I cannot get to the configuration or use of the software for the printer. I cannot perform a scan for example. I cannot get to the scanning software/ connection to the printer.
This whole thing works fine on Win 7 and I have been using it for several months.
I can print from Win 8.1 after the failed installation so the driver must have been setup correctly, but I cannot scan or use any HP printer utilities.
Any advice? Surely some folks must be running this printer on Win 81.
