My MFP has a fax modem included. I connected the fax line on my home phone line, because I have only one telephone line. However, something weird and slightly annoying happens when I use the telephone. Every time I take the phone off-hook or when I place it back on-hook, the printer wakes up from its sleep state (making a lot of noise) for about 35 seconds, after which it goes back to sleep (making a lot of noise).
Is this behaviour normal? If yes, why is the printer waking up when, in my opinion, it should not? I believe the printer should wake up only when there is a ring signal on the line (which could be due to an incoming fax) and not when the phone is simply changing status from onhook to offhook and viceversa. Could this situation be prevented somehow - perhaps a setting in the Embedded Web Server could help?
