Photosmart 7525 HPNetwork Communicator Crashes

This problem exibits itself as not allowing me to do anything with scan to computer or with FAX.  Constantly says "Cannot connect to printer" which is false since I can print just fine.  On investigation, a program called "HPNetwork Communicator" is crashing each time I attempt these things.  This can be seen in the Windows Application Log as Event ID 100 as show here:

Faulting application name: HPNetworkCommunicator.exe, version: 28.0.1315.0, time stamp: 0x507e96b6
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.3.9600.16408, time stamp: 0x523d5305

Faulting package-relative application ID:

This makes scanning a nuisance and FAXing basically not possible.  It's a bit disheartening that this problem has been reported all over the forums for at least 18 months, but HP has apparently not fixed it.  I have tried all the usual re-installs, etc., to no avail.

If anyone has insight into how to correct this AND maintain the printers full fuctionality, it would be appreciated.
